Cut out and put together geometric shapes to form a rectangular Thanksgiving picture. Recommended for second to fifth grade.
Make sure that students look carefully at the shapes and figure out the second puzzle
(a turkey tangram-style shape or letters of a Thanksgiving word).
Extra challenge: flip the pieces over so that the picture doesn't show and then put together the puzzle.
Flip over the completed puzzle. Is the picture always the same if the pieces fit together? What kinds of pieces lead to "messed up" pictures? What would happen if all the pieces were exactly the same shape?
Follow-up activity: Students create or cut out Thanksgiving pictures and then cut them up to make
a jigsaw puzzle that includes pieces shaped like their initials or the letters of their names.
